Counselor’s Role
- Select students to participate with help from school personnel
- Print Student Participation Forms
- Fill out the top portion of the Participation Form with the student’s name, grade, date of event, Walmart location information and Check-in time
- Sign and date the form before sending it home
- Fill in the date that you want the bottom part returned to you
- Send Student Participation Form home and make sure the bottom portion is signed and returned to you at least 10 days before the scheduled shopping event
- Compile a list of students’ names, gender, and grades. Send this list electronically to the counselor liaison one week prior to the shopping event.
- Send reminders to students just prior to your school’s scheduled date. These could be in the form of an intercom reminder, notices in the backpack, etc.
- You will be notified of the students who did not attend. We will give you a new date and time, and you will be responsible to notify the parents with the make-up information.
- Please encourage car pooling with the parents since students from a particular school will be shopping at the same store.
- Send a list of any additional students who you feel would benefit from the shopping event but were not included in your assigned numbers. These students will be put on a waiting list.
- Fill out counselor evaluation form within 2 weeks after shopping event.
Shopping Events
- Shopping events will be held during the months of September and October.
- All shopping events will be held at one of six Walmart locations in the area. Location will be determined by the closest proximity to the school.
- A team of Assistance League volunteers will be available to assist the shoppers at each store’s event.
- A parent or responsible adult must accompany the child(ren).
Number of students
- The number of students we will be able to serve will be given to you. If you have more
students you feel would benefit, please send us the list electronically. If any emergency situations arise, throughout the year, contact us.
- At the end of the event in October, we will see if we can provide the service to additional students, and if so, we will contact you.
