Assistance League of Reno-Sparks is a 501(3)(c) non-profit organization devoted to helping those in need within our community. All philanthropic projects are administered and staffed by our chapter volunteers. Our Chapter House at 1701 Vassar Street houses Thrift Shop and all our programs. Thrift Shop is supported by community donations and is Assistance League's major fundraiser. A total membership of 300 volunteers donates over 40,000 hours annually. According to statistics published by the U.S. Department of Labor, 40,000 hours of donated time is worth $693,000.00.

Assault Survivor Kits are provided to local hospital emergency rooms for victims of sexual assault. The kit contains a sweat suit, foot covering, underwear, dark glasses, toothbrush and a comb. When a victim of sexual assault reports the incident to the authrorities, she must leave all her clothing with that authority as evidence. Since this program's inception, 808 kits have been given to victims. Assembled Kits cost about $25 each.

Food Pantry for the last twenty-four years has been providing a supplemental food program for senior citizens whose monthly income meets the eligibilty requirements of Washoe County Senior Services. During these years, 62,034 bags of food have been packed and delivered to needy seniors. Bags of food cost between $35-$45 each.

Links to Learning provides support through the Education Collaborative for school enrichment programs. The purpose is to encourage teachers to develop creative projects that emphasize new approaches to teaching, programs designed to stimulate thought, or techniques which expand existing curriculum. In fiscal year 2004-2005 thirty-seven teachers from twelve WCSD elementary schools received awards totaling $9,838.00.

Operation School Bell has provided clothing for over 40,000 elementary school children since its inception in 1984. Referrals are made by Washoe County School District personnel. The school counselor is given a date and time for a shopping event and notifies the selected families. The parent, or responsible adult, accompanies the child to select their new school clothing at one of the local Walmart stores. Assistance League volunteers are at the store to assist the shoppers. A new outfit costs an average of $80.

Senior Sampler exclusively sells handcrafted items on consignment from area senior citizens, providing them an opportunity to supplement their incomes.  Since 1978 over $976,147.00 has been returned to seniors on consignment sales.
